UPDATED: Is The BEC "Obsessed" With Davante Lewis, As We've Been Accused?
It would seem so on the surface, or to Democrats, but readers of The BEC know better
It’s true that I’ve written a lot about the newest member of the Louisiana Public Service Commission. He happens to post a lot on social media, revealing much of his life to others; no other commissioners post as often or as personally as does he. Most of his posts have nothing to do with his work on the PSC, but instead are personal, political and cultural in nature.
I usually leave those sort of posts untouched, but it’s true that, for example, I commented on how he described himself his cousin at that young man’s untimely death.
There’s nothing about “obsession” that motivates me to make voters aware of the character of a person elected to office. It’s an upstanding service to perform for the people of Louisiana, seems to me. And I’m not aware of anyone in the state - any news organization or individual - who watches the PSC as I do and reports about them as I have.
But Democrats have mistaken frequency of writing about this PSC commissioner for an obsession with the individual, about whom I couldn’t care less. Even some “conservatives” criticize me:
Truth is, I am somewhat obsessed with a commission of 5 people who may or may not know anything about utility companies. I am somewhat obsessed with a 103 year old institution that was created before the electrification of rural Louisiana and now will be regulating the production of power by natural gas, solar panels, wind turbines, and nuclear facilities. I’m obsessed that this group of 5 answers to literally nobody. (So why they are elected and not appointed has me scratching my head.)
I’m obsessed that a hard-left progressive activist, a political nerd who studied political science and communications while also serving as student body president at NcNeese, has seized an opportunity to grab an outsized role in your lives. Mr Lewis admits that citizens know very little about the Public Service Commission; he exploited that ignorance and got the support of out-of-state funders to spend more than ten times the usual amount spent on a PSC race.
I am obsessed that an open Socialist has a six-year term as one of only 5 unaccountable people on a panel that regulates your access to electricity.
Yes, about this I am obsessed:
I don’t particularly care that this PSC commissioner is obsessed with men in drag… I’ve made no comment on this…
While he wasn’t attending drag shows he was accusing utility executives of using ratepayer money “for even bribery” yet he has never been held to account for this accusation and never been obligated to provide evidence:
He even doled out $1.265 million from a slush fund. Why do PSC commissioners have slush funds? Is anyone but The BEC asking these questions of the PSC? Anyone at all? ANYONE???
A grown man who posts things like this controls your electricity…
His responses to me are like this:
Here’s my promise to readers of The BEC: I will push the legislature, the governor, and the voters of Louisiana to restructure the anachronistic 103 year old institution that’s right now being exploited by the progressive Leftists. In the process, I will use to my advantage any and all evidence and cause provided to we voters. I will get this done, though it will probably take a few years, at least.
But a child-like narcissistic socialist political nerd whose chair was purchased for him by out-of-state big money interests will not determine for you and me whether we have the power to work and live as we will.
He’s against nuclear energy; he’s all for littering the state with solar panels and wind turbines - this despite our vulnerability to storms - and he’s a full-on Progressive Democrat who embodies all the beliefs of those sort of freaks.
I’m not okay with that.
If that qualifies as “an obsession” well so be it.
Do not confuse ‘frequency’ of writing about this commissioner as an ‘obsession’ for this individual. I couldn’t care less about the guy as a person; I’m fully incurious about him. But as he holds a very significant position that does in fact impact your quality of life, I do care, I care a lot, and I won’t stop caring until his chair is taken out from under him and the aged commission on which he sits is nothing like its current iteration.
That’s my promise to each and every one of you. Critics of me be damned.

I posted this article on Twitter and received this snarky response from the Commissioner. Just as I’m literally explaining that I’m not obsessed, he goes here with it… I have to wonder if he even read my article; he copy/pasted the first image in my piece and may have gone no further. Who knows?
It’s just a bit maddening that this man exerts oversized control over your access to power. The PSC is so broken. It simply must be fully reimagined for the 21st Century.
The Leftists are triggered… here’s just a small sampling:
