Homicide Victims: 114
Two homicide victims in the past week – stark contrast to the same week in 2022, when we had 14 homicides.
While this represents an overall decrease of 17% since 2022, we are still 87% higher than in 2019.Â
Nonfatal Shooting Incidents: 193
There have been approximately 273 victims of nonfatal gunshot injuries in 2023, though this number is subject to change as investigations progress.
At the same time in 2022, there had been 212 shooting incidents and approximately 308 nonfatal shooting victims.Â
Carjacking Incidents: 79
Carjacking incidents are down 44% relative to 2022 – this is the biggest drop we have seen in any violent crime category since 2022.
This considerable decrease in carjacking coincides with a substantial (+158%) increase in auto theft.

Armed Robbery: 211
Armed robbery is the first category of major violent crime to show a decrease (-4%) relative to 2019.
*Armed robbery continues to show a great deal of stability, except for a significant (+43%) increase compared with 2020, when the city remained under COVID-19 lockdown.
In 2022, there were 1,488 reported auto thefts as of June 11th.
There have been at least 3,713 reported auto thefts to date in 2023, an increase of 158% since 2022.Â
This is an average of 23 stolen cars per day or one car stolen per hour.
Let’s hope for the continuation of the recent downward trend.
