It’s hard to believe that our official first day of operation as The BEC was 1st November, only three short months ago. Though a few articles were up in October, most of that month was dedicated to figuring out which buttons to push… it’s been quite a learning curve.
But as we evaluate our progress, we’re pleased and very grateful: hundreds of subscribers have made this the community it is intended to be. (Indeed, this is not someone’s personal blog; The BEC is a community of like-minded people. This space is YOURS, not mine.)
We have interviewed a state senator now running for governor, two US Congressional candidates, the leaders of Save Our Schools (that interview up this week), a leader in the home schooling movement, an organizer of Conservative women in politics, a successful Jefferson School Board candidate, and more.
We have brought increased awareness to the power of a previously little-known five-member panel: The Louisiana Public Service Commission and exposed the hard-Left corruption of its newest member, Davante Lewis. We confronted Lewis at his victory party on election night. He avoids us like the plague, calling me “a troll.” Our reporting on him will be unrelenting.
We have challenged members of the New Orleans City Council to uphold the traditional family in the effort to combat crime. This effort will be not only ongoing but will intensify - greatly - in 2023.
We have hosted guest writers who bring expertise and clarity in thought to issues of tremendous concern.
We took on Gambit Weekly over their unforgivable treatment of a doll house shop in the French Quarter, whom they attacked (with the wish to ruin the business and its owners.) Three attorneys looked at the case, and The BEC did all we could to raise this matter to city-wide interest.
This solid start is only that: our beginning!
What can you expect in 2023?
The Big Easy Neighbors Podcast is still in the works as is a central Conservative-serving calendar so that all us like-minded people can know what’s happening!
Coffeeshop meetings among our members is on the way, gathering in small and neighborhood-sized groups to get to know one another.
More interviews and more guest writers, as it’s my hope that the majority of work on The BEC are not from my own pen, but the better-informed work of great thinkers and Conservative activists!
An explicit and deliberate effort to agitate the Left, to be a “provocateur” in the cause of Conservative thought is ahead. To grandly and proudly declare our values in the public sphere! To “move the needle” toward real progress, not progressivism!
To organize The BEC’s Books, and we’ll be starting with C.S. Lewis’ “The Screwtape Letters.”
To do everything in our power to elevate the traditional family as the key to a stable and livable society and as the way to reduce crime, reduce poverty, increase academic achievement, create healthier bonds, produce happier children who possess positive self-esteem; to uphold the role of FATHERS in particular as key to all of this.
We stand in complete opposition to the wind farm going up in the Gulf of Mexico as well as the full-on attack on our state’s oil and gas industry. Expect a far greater level of work and reporting on this front, as well.
Friends, at only three months into this effort, we can say with certitude that The BEC is a now-permanent part of the local landscape. We are becoming a force to reckon with!
Please share our work with others; sharing is how we grow. And if you appreciate what we’re doing, please consider joining as a paid subscriber.
