The BEC Explains the Choice to Write a Direct and Personal Response To Commissioner Lewis Yesterday
It's fair to ask my reasons
About 8:00 last night, I went into my response to Davante Lewis and removed much of the content that included calling him, for example, an “imp.” I shortened my full response down to simply a “Thank You” and to showing everyone the obnoxious reply from Lewis, where he called us, through silly meme, “obsessed.”
I have heard from a small number of you that my tone and word choices had been a bit too personal and inappropriate. I hear you and I fully respect your position; I understand your concerns.
I make no apologies, however. I respect the critique, but I do not share your view.
I edited out the offensive language last night not for Mr Lewis, not for any reader… I did it to clear my own mind of the anger I felt toward Mr Lewis… the justifiable anger I felt. I needed to unload a bit… and rightfully so.
Friends, there will be times when this Culture War gets down and dirty. Times when it is imperative that we do not shrink from the fight. Times when we simply must call out these people as the fools they are. They sometimes must be mocked and teased, their dangerous silliness revealed for what it is.
The BEC has made every effort to respectfully question Mr Lewis: he has rebuffed every effort.
We went into depth studying his campaign contributions, but he offered no comment:
We asked him for comment on the slave conditions in the Congo, because no batteries of the future can work without the minerals mined by African women and children. He ignored us:
We even wrote an “Open Letter” to him that was entirely ignored…
It will not be often, but it will sometimes happen that the head of steam explodes into the justifiable anger that our present condition has created.
Strap in. We are in this for the long haul. We have a city to save and a culture to defend, and sometimes knuckles get bruised and egos get bloodied.
I am here to take - and administer - the punches so you don’t have to. (Metaphorical punches, not real ones. I repeat: NOT real punches!)
My gratitude to everyone who reached out and expressed their care and concern.
