State Rep Mandie Landry Proposes California-Style Direct Democracy For Louisiana, And Returns to the Democrat Party
A ballot initiative proposal that on first blush causes concern
Democrat State Representative Mandie Landry (representing Orleans Parish) has offered a proposal to amend the Constitution of Louisiana to open up ballot initiatives.
Though we disagree with Ms Landry on most all the things, she and I have always had respectful exchanges. So I reached out to her…

We have no appetite for California-style direct democracy, which in itself is a frightening proposition. Our representative form of government, with all its flaws, already allows citizens to write or call their reps - people like Mandie Landry - and seek redress or offer proposals.
We will keep an eye on this effort. From what we see on this first look, it’s something to run from as if your hair is on fire.
