Attorney and State Senator Gary Carter has withdrawn his proposal to blame victims for the criminal behavior of others. That the bill was proposed at all is somewhat shocking; that it has been withdrawn is not really a surprise. It’s a terribly written bill, and a first year law student would do better. (Well, by never writing it!)
Since the introduction of SB216, I have had an open dialogue with those who have expressed their concerns about the unintended consequences of SB216, such as imposing civil fines, penalties, and damages on those who have been victimized by car burglaries. I appreciate and respect those concerns and will continue to welcome such conversations. To be clear: SB216 seeks to promote gun safety and reduce the number of violent crimes, not to cause further harm to law-abiding citizens. It is evident that we cannot ignore the pandemic of gun violence. However, to make certain that there are no unintended consequences, SB216 will not proceed during the legislative session. I will continue to fight to address violent crimes caused by gun violence and work collaboratively to take urgent and necessary steps toward a safer Louisiana.
Did you catch this: “violent crimes CAUSED BY GUN VIOLENCE.”
“Violence caused by violence!” and it makes sense to them?
Democrats just don’t get it. Their thin thinking is so very backwards and foolishly wrong.
Guns can’t become violent! A peaceful person could be surrounded by these devices and would hurt nobody! While a murderer could kill you with his fists.
This event dovetails with news that “The Tennessee 3” voted AGAINST a school safety bill that passed the Tennessee House 95-4 (and unanimously in the Senate).
The bill is truly impressive, addressing architectural issues in school construction, door locks, layering doors that can be independently locked to keep an intruder out of the school, providing for training for security, requiring assessments of safety of facilities, requiring schools to practice active shooter drills at least once each year, etc.
It’s a great law!
Turns out, the TN3 and Gary Carter, and JP Morrell, are all cut from the very same, very flawed, cloth.
