"Rather than teaching people to refrain from disliking certain groups, we should instead teach people to refrain from killing those whom they dislike."
Jordan Peterson receives freedom honor and some samplings of his work, along with a word from the bec
We learn tonight Dr. Peterson is to be distinguished for his defense of freedom.
From National Post, conservative Canadians. (Didn’t think you’d hear that one, did’ja? “Conservative Canadians” exist!)
Jordan Peterson has been selected to receive the 2023 George Jonas Freedom Award from the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms because of his exceptional contributions to Canada as a free society.
Read the full news here, but the gist goes like this…
This is what the George Jonas Freedom Award is all about: encouraging Canadians to defend their free society, and to reverse Canada’s descent into tyranny.
An author, poet, journalist and National Post columnist, George Jonas (1935-2016) made significant contributions to freedom in Canada, after escaping from communist Hungary in 1956. Jonas experienced life under both Stalinist communism, as well as the pro-Nazi Hungarian fascist regime during the Second World War. The Justice Centre inaugurated this annual award in 2018, to carry on Jonas’ important legacy and to highlight the impact that one individual can make in defence of a free society.
Jonas recognized the importance of each individual, having seen first hand the dangers of collectivist ideologies that require individuals to submit mindlessly to state edicts and pretend to support utopian plans and projects. Whether the “public interest” was Stalin’s communist workers’ paradise, or Hitler’s racially pure 1,000-year Reich, totalitarianism crushes the individual’s freedoms of speech, conscience, religion, association, movement, peaceful assembly and the right to own and enjoy the fruits of one’s labours.
A reminder of the classic that thrust Peterson onto the global stage:
And his documentary on the Museum of the Bible is super cool.
We’re so very grateful to Jordan Peterson.
Here, he’s discussing the gender madness with Dr. Miriam Grossman, with a particular focus on the parents of children slipping into these gender illnesses.
And a short mention of a simple truth many are missing right now, the quote attributed to Peterson in our heading, which tells us what we all know …
“Don’t murder”
It seems simple enough to us, those of us who’d never presume to kill anyone, who would do so only with grave regret.
The Left characterizes us as cold-hearted. We love guns more than kids, they accuse, because we don’t back their legislation.
Mischaracterizing us, mis-attributing our motivations to mean-spiritedness… it hurts. And it’s beyond insufferable now.
Anyone who’d ignore “Don’t murder” will ignore any other words on any other pieces of paper, no matter how many words and how many papers.
“Gun Violence” is as real as “Gun Control”
Indeed, the aspiration to eradicate hatred is far downstream of “Don’t kill.” Just as “GUNS!” and “DO Something!” are far downstream of Depression+Violence, the true causes of murderous behavior.
Guns can’t make you do it. But SSRI drugs can, and social media fads can, and encouragement from teachers and TikTok friends can, and hearing Richard Levine lecture you on public health while he wears a dress to work can. And being a teenager told the Earth won’t be livable in the prime years of your life can.
Our social lives can too. Imagine the prospects of dating for young people - many people, any age - dating has been reduced to flipping through anonymous photos on your phone, shoving faces left or right with your thumb… and knowing you're being flipped away just as easily. Lately, technology has left us feeling empty, no?
So many brutal things intersect right now, and it’s killing us. A simple means to do harm intersects dramatic depression in youth intersects science-affirmed doomsday scenarios heard everyday of your life.
Can we all please be gentler on young people? Gentler on one another?
Friends, I’m sorry to say it. But we are in for some very dark and sad times ahead. The transgender madness is only revving up, as are the de-transitioning lament videos. Expect more confusion and anger from young people. Expect them to shoot things up a lot on their way out. Peterson is right. Can’t we just stop killing one another and worry about liking each other for another day?
Sadly, no.
Evidently, we cannot.
