Planning of "Open Carry Saturday"
We'll be maintaining an open process to plan this event
Friends of The BEC,
I’d like to share with everyone the vision and hopes for OCS, what it is (and is not), and what we think we can accomplish.
Only 24 hours since conceiving of the idea, and it’s taking some small steps. I’ve reached out to people who are central in gun rights and all have responded in the affirmative to the general idea.
That’s a good start.
Assuming that the Left will behave as they always do, I’m seeking the opinion of a lawyer or three to imagine a worse case scenario should anything go wrong, and to get ahead of the curve on it. Leftists lie, distort, and mischaracterize us, so we need to expect it and plan for it.
Our messaging has to be exact, clear, and totally proper.
The hashtag and theme of the event is:
#Willing To Protect
The plan is to ask lawful gun owners to open carry wherever they go on the designated day, a Saturday. Good people who carry are a source of comfort, not an unsettling disturbance, and unarmed people around a responsible, properly-carrying individual are safer than if he/she is not around.
Imagine being at the grocery store and seeing a 70 year old grandmother carrying! Or being at Home Depot and a Dad shopping for paint is carrying.
The BEC will be reaching out to every Republican running for office, asking for their endorsement and if they’ll participate on OCS as well.
Imagine Sharon Hewitt delivering a campaign speech in her run for governor and carrying as she takes the stage!
Our messaging must be specific, correct, clear and water tight. Good people with guns are part of the solution to the crime epidemic.
A person great with graphics skills is already on board; materials for wide distribution across social media are a central part of our effectiveness. Media kits will go out to TV, radio stations, news outlets, etc.
We’re asking gun shop owners, handling trainers, gun lobby groups to come onboard this project. Please email me!
Perhaps someone does not want to carry but supports open carry? I’d like to have a T-shirt available for purchase ahead of time and whether carrying or not, wearing the shirt on the designated Saturday says that you, too, are “Willing To Protect.”
After Mardi Gras, I’ll be assembling a core group to head this up. We need some specialty talents, skills, and experiences to do this right.
I’d like to see it a statewide event, but 2A people across the country can participate!

One other true benefit to this action: It’s not our nature as Conservatives to protest, or to rally, or to take to the streets. OCS is NOT a protest. It IS a positive affirmation of your Constitutional rights. This activity feels right for us, it fits our deportment, so to speak.
Perhaps the best way to battle the Left is to be our best selves, living a robust life as a person with conservative principles, willing to openly express our values in public.
