Murder Victim, 14, Found On Train Tracks, Identified by Coroner
237 Murders In New Orleans; +30% Over 2021
The New Orleans coroner has identified 14 year old Dominic Tomlin as the victim whose body was found on railroad tracks in Gentilly, close to Pontchartrain Park. Police discovered the child’s body at 12:05 a.m. Wednesday.
Originally believing he had been struck by a train, the cause of death was changed to homicide as the coroner discovered multiple gunshot wounds and determined the gun shots as the cause of death.
It is unclear if the shooting happened there, or if the killer transported the body to the tracks, presumably as a way to conceal the horrific crime.
We are still gathering details, but social media indicates this boy was “a good kid” as described by one of his teachers. Investigators have not determined the circumstances around this child’s murder.
The Metropolitan Crime Commission reports 237 homicides as of 13 November, which marks an increase of 142% over 2019 and 36% over 2021.
There have been 415 non-fatal shootings, a 96% increase over 2019, and 605 shooting incidents so far this year.
Armed robberies are increasing at a frightening pace, at 486 in 2022, marking a 35% increase over 2019 and 50% increase over 2021.
The Culture of Death that prevails in our city and our nation only deepens. While others seek to cope with consequences, we at The BEC look upstream for causes. Unavoidably, the answers can be found in the dynamics of the family and an emptiness of Spirit.
For sixty years, our culture, disfigured by forces in government dominated by Leftists, has deteriorated in decency, manners, responsibility, honor, and truth. We have come to see abortion as “a right” to defend and “celebrate,” and marriage as a thing to redefine. “Love is Love,” after all. Marriages are decreasing, couples are having fewer children, divorces are up. “Baby Mama” has become an actual identity, while fathers abandon their children to be raised by single mothers with support from the state.
(Dominic Tomlin was white, by the way; many people on social media are presuming this crime as black-on-black murder.)
We can install more cameras everywhere, or carry our guns every minute, or make the futile effort to incentivize people to join the police forces the Left has demonized. But all of these are reactive, not preventative or curative.
Better, we can dedicate ourselves to lives committed to purpose and productivity, and an unwavering commitment to life. We can actively seek a healthier, livable city, openly and proudly wearing our values in public.
If you are raised in a religious tradition and have faded from practice, please return to church, mosque, or synagogue, and attend with a family member. If you feel intimidated into silence, speak up. When you vote, support pro-life candidates. If you avoid conversations about values, find your strength and defend your principles. Be fearless in this fight.
It’s going to be a long haul, especially for young people. Imagine what a 14-year old sees for his future, though stolen from him has been the one rescue: faith.
The problem isn’t the gun, it’s the empty soul of the person holding it.
We are in a generational struggle to rescue our children from lives of despair, meaninglessness, fear and hopelessness.
Children are killing themselves and each other. In every action, in every thought, we must do what each of us can to return a sense of dignity to their young lives.
Nothing is more urgent.
