No respite from crime even as residents celebrate Christmas. A murder at a busy downtown grocery store, shots on the interstate, a 16 year old killed in Central City, and a mass shooting at a party in the 9th Ward.
And a young man was shot in the 300 block of Julia Street, in the Warehouse District, this morning.
The BEC holds that focusing on city leadership is not only “not enough” to tackle this problem, but it’s a misplaced focus; these are troubles of the soul and the spirit. This comes from a broken culture that no mayor can fix.
Nothing in our political environment would allow any sort of true, real discussion about the authentic causes of this level of crime. Yes, more police on the street would help, but there is no end in sight, cops or none.
Travel and move through the city safely, everyone.
