He was fully aware of the pay rate when he submitted his candidacy paperwork, and in truth, he's positioned himself for a Golden Parachute from Big Renewable when he leaves his seat on the PSC.
This will not surprise you. Far from it, it will affirm your priors, all of them, about all the things. That it took only some weeks for Davante Lewis to press for a pay raise surprises no one.

But lest you think he thinks only about himself, no… he’s framing this as a pay raise for everyone who relies on minimum wage.

So, yes, you are worth less money than a surgeon with decades of experience. So is almost everyone… except surgeons with decades of experience.
It might be that the position of PSC was never intended to be a single source of income for you commissioners, Davante.

Current pay for Louisiana state legislators: $16,800. Proposed pay: $60,000.
Mr Lewis wants the PSC to follow suit. And he’ll leverage the pay rate of the poorest to justify his own salary increase.
