Mayor Selects Niece of Former NOPD Head as Interim NOPD Superintendent
A Few Things Are Far More Meaningful Than Her Qualifications
Mayor Cantrell today announced the selection of Captain Michelle Woodfork to provide interim leadership to a shredded New Orleans Police Department.
To read the tweet above, one would be forgiven if it may have crossed your mind that this selection was an opportunity to check off virtue boxes, several in fact.
Crime exploded under her uncle’s tenure, and we certainly don’t hold that against the niece. But Michelle Woodfork is a woman (and God Forbid it be any different) she’s black. So… rest easy, New Orleans.
If she’s truly dedicated and competent, as we hope she is, would she not feel some insult being selected for so many reasons other than her qualifications? We cast no doubt on Michelle Woodfork or her abilities.
The Transgressive Left — who run New Orleans in every way — have no clue how deeply they despise the integrity and honor of black people. The Left treat black citizens as tokens, as the means to amp up their own virtue.
The hard Left hates black people, which is why so many black people suffer under the Left.
There’s just no avoiding that truth.
“Activism is a way for useless people to feel important, even if the consequences of their activism are counterproductive for those they claim to be helping and damaging to the fabric of society as a whole." ~ Thomas Sowell
New Orleans City Council member JP Morrell says not a single word about Woodfork’s qualifications.
And of course not!
Should you recoil from this sort of candor, we ask: How have you not taken from Superintendent Woodfork the absolute certitude that she has been selected entirely for her qualifications? How have you not set her up for failure, or self-doubt, because of how you self-servingly treated her immutable characteristics?
This is what the Left do to black people: as they pander to them, they demoralize them and rob them of their individuality and self-respect.
Mayor Cantrell swims in this stuff, made more ironic because the Left cannot answer “What is a woman?” while they celebrate Michelle Woodfork as a woman.
Thought experiment: A cis gender white male can now be put up for consideration against Michelle Woodfork.
How is this not fixing the selection process, lest anyone dare suggest a candidate with different immutable traits? And all this happens as the City Council asserts itself in the selection process. **
When will this stop? How can this finally end? De-individualizing black people; it’s what Democrat Leftists do. And it breaks our heart. The truest racial injustice lives in the heart of Leftists, who just get everything symmetrically backwards: they see the symmetry and miss the backwards.
Coleman Hughes addresses racial color-blindness in his first column for The Free Press, quite coincidentally out today. He writes:
“…when NAACP lawyer Thurgood Marshall was battling segregation in the courts, an aide recalled that he considered the Plessy dissent his “bible” and would read aloud from it when he needed inspiration. “Our constitution is color-blind,” his favorite sentence, became the “basic creed” of the NAACP.
Good luck Superintendent Woodfork. We wish you every success.
** Only deeper politicization of the superintendent search/hire process can result from New Orleans City Council involvement. Nothing about “better outcome” should be assumed when one hears that the council has involved itself moving forward.
