Local Media Ignore The Gambit's Libelous Attack
Shared self-interests matter more than reporting truthful news, or even exposing injustice. Or maybe worse: they just don't care.
While a thorn-in-your-side loudmouth Leftist could goad a major paper to print libel about a local boutique, a fair-minded community of Conservatives cannot prod objective journalists, even Conservatives, to look into The Gambit’s defamation?
We’re left wondering, and it may be an unavoidable conclusion:
They don’t care.
What else can be drawn from the fact that local mainstream media have ignored every effort to pique interest in The Gambit’s baseless attack upon a French Quarter doll house and toy soldier shop?
All sentient online human beings know the intense hatred predictably unleashed by “news stories” like The Gambit’s piece.
And not only have WWL, WDSU, FOX8 and the others ignored the story, but so have Conservative outlets The Hayride and Townhall.
The BEC Community is well-aware of the story, exposed here. Well-aware of our efforts to challenge The Gambit, and of our further efforts to amplify and correct the injustice.
No one in local New Orleans media have responded in any way, with one small but telling exception. The writer of the story disregarded us when we spoke with him directly, and another member of the local media, a writer for The Advocate Newspaper, flatly stated his disinterest in a text exchange with us: “I’m not going to dive into this fight. I hope our friendship is unaffected.” (To be clear, we never asked him to “fight” about this, but simply speak to someone internally about it.)
The BEC tweeted our reporting to larger outlets earlier this week with literally no response. (This article as well.)
Can fears be so easily excited by blowhard activists? Can baseless accusations be so corrupting that media perceive risk to themselves to even report the story? Have the Left dominated the industry so thoroughly that professional media grow only timorous?
The BEC will not abandon this issue, as we expose not only the nasty transgressive Left but also challenge our fellow Conservatives.
