Literacy, Crime and All-Democrat Leadership Throughout the Modern Era
I have no idea what role the Orleans Parish GOP plays, or if it even exists
Literally all mayors of New Orleans since 1872 have been Democrats.
Does the Republican Party have any presence or influence at all in Orleans Parish? I honestly have no idea. It seems like the answer is a robust, “No, none at all.”
The consequences of Democrat leadership are all around us. You’d think Republicans could make something out of that, appeal to voters, and promise and perform at a higher level.
I’ll park that thought right there and show you these without need for commentary:
I’ll let you connect the dots.
And now on to this week’s crime report, delivered to us by the Metropolitan Crime Commission…
The news for children and crime being quite awful…
Children killing children is becoming the norm in New Orleans under perpetual Democrat leadership. Juvenile shootings have increased 42% over the past year.
As of July 23, 2023:
Homicide Victims: 145
Four homicide victims in the past week, including the negligent homicide of a 4-year-old playing with an unsecured firearm.
Homicide in 2023 is 15% lower than the same time in 2022.
The homicide total includes six victims of vehicular homicide, three negligent, and approximately three which may later be deemed justified by the DA’s office. These will not be counted as “murders” by NOPD.
Nonfatal Shooting Incidents: 229
There have been approximately 311 victims of nonfatal gunshot incidents in 2023, though this number is subject to change as investigations progress.
At the same time in 2022, there had been 266 shooting incidents and approximately 376 nonfatal shooting victims (overall reduction of 17% in fatal/nonfatal shooting incidents and victims).
Notably, juvenile shootings (including fatal and nonfatal injuries) have increased by 42% since the same time in 2022.
Carjacking Incidents: 95
Carjacking incidents are down 47% relative to 2022 – still the biggest decline we are seeing in any major violent crime category since 2022.
Continues to coincide with a substantial (135%) increase in auto theft (as of July 23, 2022, 1,898 auto thefts vs. 4,394 in 2023).
Armed Robbery Incidents: 238
Armed robbery is 27% lower than this time in 2022 and 2% lower than the same time in 2019, though we remain slightly to moderately above 2020-2021 rates (+20%, and +6%, respectively).
There are similar numbers of armed robberies since 2019, except for 2020, when the city was under COVID-19 lockdown.
In 2022, there were 1,898 reported auto thefts as of July 9th.
There have been at least 4,394 reported auto thefts to date in 2023, an increase of 135% since 2022.
This is an average of 22 stolen cars per day.
