Just last week he was trashing financial literacy courses for high schoolers. This week, he’s giving over a million bucks to a historically black university.
We can barely keep up! But we can pass along some great news…
Public Service Commission member Davante Lewis announced this morning that he - yes, he - has awarded Southern University a stunning amount of money (for a man on a $45,000 a year salary):
Davante provides no hint about the source of the funds, except to tell you they came from him. Here’s the check to prove it….
That’s not his signature, but it is his name so who am I to doubt him? He even posted his own photo of himself with Southern reps…
It had been a few days since Davante gushed about himself on social media so we figured something was up. Turns out, he was signing some seriously big checks!
If I’m unexpectedly wrong - I doubt it, but… and Davante has not personally bankrolled the weatherization of a university sports stadium, I’ll be sure to offer my mea culpa and you’ll be the first to hear it.
You deserve no less from me…. and you deserve absolutely nothing from Commissioner Davante Lewis.
P.S.
A little message that Davante put out this past week….
P.P.S.
Southern seems to be of the impression this was a “donation” from Davante Lewis. “… his generous support and donation”
Funny, that.
An answer came under questioning from State Representative Thomas Pressly of Shreveport, a Repubican:
Lewis:
This funding comes from the public entities program under each district of the commission.
Pressly:
Thanks for responding. Two follow ups: 1. When you say from the public entities program, is that from a portion of the funds paid by the ratepayers (aka customers?) 2. Does the “public entities program” provide equal funding to each PSC district? If not, how is it divided?
1. Each IOU set aside for public schools, buildings, local govts. It’s a portion of their budget, we don’t let utilities recover the cost (so not on customers)
2 . It’s is mostly equal, it’s based on their service territory in each district and only for their payers use
Thanks for the information, Commissioner.
Anytime!
There’s no mention of why Southern University received the $1.265 million. I’m not questioning the merit of the award, but Mr Lewis offered no answers or indications about the awarding of the money.
Everyone has the right to know what’s going on here…
Thank you, Davante
