I don’t wish to be off-putting, my friends. I’m deeply conflicted and uncertain right now. I have no idea if I’ll regret hitting the “publish” button.
This post is a real challenge for me to write… how do I balance my gratitude with my frustration? How do I say “Thank you” while not sounding ungrateful, or worse, sounding like a scold?
Conservatives:
Where are you? How many of your liberties must be threatened before you are moved to publicly object?
Let’s speak plainly here…
First, a robust “THANK YOU” to the 14 people who have donated money either directly with cash or using the GiveSendGo service. And a tremendous THANK YOU to a gentleman who dropped off 450 diapers last night while I was set up across the tracks from Second Line Brewery.
Our donations have surpassed $1300. A deep and sincere THANK YOU is well-deserved for those who have contributed and participated.
Now… the hard part.
The Archbishop and the Archdiocese of New Orleans have issued no statement, have made no response to the incident with Second Line Brewery… except to call me and pressure me to drop the issue.
One great listener of Jeff Crouere’s radio show came by last night and two personal friends of mine came, too. Nobody else.
Not the Archbishop. Not one priest. Nobody from the archdiocese in any capacity. No one from Louisiana Right to Life. Not one concerned parent of a child in Catholic school.
Second Line Brewers literally promised to vet their customers, excluding Catholics, denying them service. They’ve done this with no push-back.
Though we Conservatives rush to complain about hollowed-out institutions, are we responding with anything of substance to the Left’s aggressions?
Do we care much that religious bigots can boast about their prejudices while the archbishop remains silent?
Indeed, the two friends who came by are potent forces! And more’s to come about them. (Hint: they entered the brewery carrying a camera and asked to speak with the owner. And ownership of the brewery are as mean-spirited as you’d assume. As soon as I receive the edited footage from inside the brewery, you all will be the first to see it.)
In the meantime, I’m walking the fine line between gratitude and agitation, elevating the warnings while trying to inspire and enable a response, and doing it without seeming to scold anyone during this process.
Surely, a large donation means much; it’s significant.
But a gaping silence exists, too.
The BEC is my attempt to fill that silent space. To the hundreds of subscribers to this humble effort, thank you. But please let your reading here inspire you to more! This is only a start, a beginning. There’s a lot to do!
We have a city to save.
