Gretna, Elsewhere Throughout Metro New Orleans, Hammered by Tornadoes As Strong Storm Moves Through Area
More than 30,000 without power tonight
Gretna residents endured frightening moments this afternoon as a powerful band of weather moved through the area, bringing a destructive tornado that touched down around Whitney Avenue and Leboeuf Street. A cold front pushed out tropical air, with the consequences being all-too damaging to homes and businesses in Gretna and elsewhere on the Westbank.
The BEC spoke with Gretna police on-scene, and no injuries had been reported as of 5:00. Entergy reports more than 30,000 customers without power.
