Presenting you with the most recent crime statistics from the Metropolitan Crime Commission. Remember, comparisons to 2022 don’t mean much; we need to look at 2019 to get a better understanding of the condition of crime in New Orleans - before the pandemic and the disastrous response to it.
WWL-TV has reported on the different nature of crime compared to, say, 1990, when more than 400 murders occurred in the city.
Children are killing and being killed; crime feels random; criminals take life with a casualness that causes us all to feel less secure.
The retired criminal court judge interviewed by WWL said scant-nearly nothing about the role of fathers and families… Democrats always make the same insufferable mistake, dismissing the role of families while dumping all the blame for crime on “us” or “the state” or “we.”
There’s nothing “we” or “the state” can do that only parents and families must do for their children.
As of July 9, 2023:
Homicide Victims: 137
Homicide total includes six victims of vehicular homicide, one negligent, and approx. three pending justifiable consult. These will not be counted as “murders” by NOPD.

Nonfatal Shooting Incidents: 223
There have been approximately 305 victims of nonfatal gunshot incidents in 2023, though this number is subject to change as investigations progress.

There are similar numbers of armed robberies since 2019, except for 2020, when the city was under COVID-19 lockdown.
In 2022, there were 1,728 reported auto thefts as of July 9th.
There have been at least 4,160 reported auto thefts to date in 2023, an increase of 141% since 2022.
This is an average of 22 stolen cars per day.
I had lunch with a cousin yesterday and was comforted to learn he was carrying.
Be safe everyone!
