The Metropolitan Crime Commission has released the week’s numbers.
People keep killing one another too much.
Other criminal activity seems waning a bit, we welcome that. But compared to 2019, before the Covid Atrocities, we’re still unwell.
YTD as of March 19, 2023:
Homicide victims: 59
-Six homicide victims in the past week, including one vehicular (vs.11 homicides same week in 2022).
-This is a 4% increase since 2022 – homicide remains the only category of major violent crime that is still showing an increase over last year.
Nonfatal shooting incidents: 88
– There have been approximately 129 victims of nonfatal gunshot injuries in 2023, though this number is subject to change as investigations progress.
– At the same time in 2022, there had been 104 shooting incidents and approximately 126 nonfatal shooting victims.
Carjacking incidents: 47
-Carjacking incidents down 45% relative to 2022 – this is the biggest drop we have seen in any violent crime category since 2022.
Armed Robbery: 103
-Reported armed robbery is down 13% relative to 2022
-Seven armed robberies reported last week vs. five during the same week in 2022.
Our gratitude to the Metropolitan Crime Commission.
