While the petition effort to recall LaToya Cantrell continues, and as she’s grabbing national headlines for all the wrong reasons, be reminded that LaToya Cantrell’s arrogance is nothing new. The $30,000 airline tickets (because “black women cannot safely fly in coach”)… Making an appearance in court to support a juvenile carjacker, making an insult of herself to crime victims… The list is long, but let’s not forget the Mayor’s ham-fisted approach to unlawful city-wide restrictions during Covid: Threats to strip and seize people’s unemployment benefits!
In a true “How does she even think of these things?” moment, LaToya Cantrell threatened the meager income from unemployment benefits, this during the unjust government-imposed layoffs during the Covid era, as punishment for anyone who dared to breathe openly, outside of the City’s bizarre Covid restrictions.
It was September of 2020 and our own petty little tyrant was flexing her imaginary muscles. As nola.com reported at the time: "New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell said she's looking into ways to strip people of unemployment benefits if they violate city rules..." Wear a mask in public or forego feeding your children.
Indeed, she “promised a new crackdown... on Bourbon Street and elsewhere" with an enforcement threat that shocks the conscience.
At this time of reflection on local leadership, let’s recall that the city has endured an unbroken stretch of Democrat mayors since 1872. (not a typo)
It is not only time to remove the current petty tyrant, but it’s past time to elect a Conservative mayor of New Orleans.
Let's not forget her press conference when she told the citizens not to go shopping and she was photographed minutes later in the mall, shopping.
