A Handful of Items to Bring to the Attention of The People of The BEC
This will seem a bit scattered....
A very good First Friday of March to everyone.
I’m reminded that when I was in elementary school, we’d all have walked from the school into church at 10:00 for First Friday Mass. I miss those wonderful days. Especially since this was the one day of the month we didn’t bring a lunchbox to school, but instead we’d be served either a burger or hot dog with a bag of chips, a cupcake, and a tall Pepsi bottle. I looked forward to this once-a-month event like you cannot know, especially because we’d all crush the chips onto the burger while a kid named Paul Siler would down the full bottle of Pepsi in a single gulp, disregarding the fizzy pain in his throat, all to look cool to his fellow 4th graders swarmed around him, laughing.
I digress with reminiscence….
So many separate items are in the works and I’ve struggled this week in how best to bring all these stray items to you. So please pardon the scattershot approach…
Mayor Cantrell’s Recall Problem
The big item of the week has been the recall effort and I’ve hesitated much mention of it because the situation changes seemingly by the hour. The boxes of signed sheets were indeed delivered to the Registrar of Voters; the boxes left unattended; speculation on the number of signatures; the lawsuit about The Advocate/nola.com receiving copies (and who would pay for them); the lawsuit and settlement about the proper number of ‘active’ voters on the voter rolls; the response from the mayor’s supporters claiming that the whole affair is a GOP-led effort to disenfranchise black voters; the mayor’s race-card-pulling statement of the same.
We are all in ‘wait and see’ mode. Frankly, anyone following the news knows as much about the status of this as I do.
Should the recall move forward, an up or down election will happen, where voters say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ about the mayor losing her job. Should she be defeated in that, the City Council would appoint an interim mayor, then a full election of candidates will go before the voters.
This is a long process, everyone. Buckle in. Surely there are more fireworks ahead.
The BEC’s primary concern: If Cantrell does not go down in the first vote, she will be more emboldened than ever. If you found this arrogant snake of a human being obnoxious before the recall, prepare yourselves. Teedy will be off the chain.
A Lawyerly Conversation About Liability and “Open Carry Saturday”
I consulted Wednesday evening about potential liability for The BEC if something should go wrong with “Open Carry Saturday,” which, to remind everyone, is the bec’s idea to show the community that there are law-abiding people who are #Willing To Protect, who will carry and defend others should a terrible, violent event occur. I see this as a statewide type of low-key statement-making about the benefit of guns in the hands of mature, law-abiding, responsible and caring members of the community.
But the bec might be open to liability, and I need to avoid this while moving forward with the event: Let’s say an inexperienced gun owner heeds our call and participates in OCS. Then let’s say he’s showing his gun to someone who asks about it, drops the gun, which goes off and strikes someone in the leg. That individual will be looking to sue everyone involved.
So the thinking now is to ask people to show their public support for carrying in any way that is best suited for them, matching their experience with guns, while allowing for public expression of support for gun rights and the benefits of carrying.
To wit:
If you are highly experienced, carry as you ordinarily would.
If you’d like to carry a gun as the strong visual symbol it is, carry it unloaded for the purposes of the OCS event.
If you are not comfortable carrying openly then wear an empty holster on your waist as an expression of your support of #Willing To Protect
Wear our BEC-yellow T-shirt or hat with the #Willing To Protect messaging… this would be best for everyone involved; make a statement simply with your presence.
The plan is to designate a Saturday when we all make an understated declaration about gun safety and the alternative to “gun violence,” what I’ve coined as “Gun Peace.”
We’re working on this project and consulting people with greater knowledge and experience for best ways forward. Stay tuned, more forthcoming as this becomes clear.
The Wind Farm in the Gulf of Mexico
It was announced to little attention this past week that the size of the wind farm will be reduced to about half its originally planned size. Our disappointment is that it will not be shrunk to ZERO its planned size, but we’ll take what we can get.
In a related note, everyone’s best Marxist friend Davante Lewis has had quite a couple weeks, being noted in international LGBTQ++ magazines and speaking to groups of students and others about Black History Month. He’s very self-impressed, an added danger to the rest of us as he flexes his ‘Commish’ muscles.
He’d like to see the elimination of Short Term Rentals - a complete ban - and this while he’s anti-capitalist, anti-fossil fuel, and anti-human. His every utterance is borrowed from a Marxist bumper sticker; he’s not evidenced any original ideas.
We have a very long-term problem on our hands with Davante Lewis sitting on the Public Service Commission. Expect this to worsen with the next round of PSC elections, as ‘Big Renewable’ will bankroll another $2MM campaign and assure the majority they desire on the 5-member panel.
Then, Louisiana energy along with Louisiana’s economy will be fully exposed to the ruination brought by Leftist transgressive deconstructionists.
It’s going to be very bad for the people of Louisiana, friends.
The Curated Viewing List has been a great success!
Expect this week’s list to post this evening. We are pleased that so many of you look forward to this new benefit. The number of people who consult the list consistently exceeds the number of subscribers to The BEC. Thank you!
Businesses That Would Like To Reach Out To Fellow Conservatives…
We’re a community of like-minded folks, and we’d all like to do business with people we trust and share values. Please email me as we compile our list for The BEC Business Guide.
Let’s spread the news to the many hundreds who read The BEC and do business as much as we can with our Conservative friends.
To get your business featured (no cost to you; this is a service to our members) just email the bec at TheBigEasyConservative@ProtonMail.com
Please Consider A Paid Subscription to The Big Easy Conservative
Hundreds of Conservatives are subscribed, almost all of you using a free subscription, which is fine. We’re thrilled you read us, participate, and share our work. This is not “my blog.” This is YOUR COMMUNITY.
Please consider an upgrade. Your support will fund events like Open Carry Saturday as well as the work we do to monitor the City Council, the impactful news events, trips to Baton Rouge to attend PSC meetings, etc.
Interestingly, The BEC has more paid annual subscribers than paid monthly subscribers, and each of these annual subscribers have told me they are delighted to support our work; they want to help this overall project, so they ‘go big’ when they subscribe. It’s extremely appreciated!
The well of gratitude runs deep, everyone.
Be well, be safe.
