A Bill Is Being Considered That Would Make It Illegal to Touch Your Cell Phone While Driving
House Bill 580 has been rejected for 13 years, but...
But here we are, yet again, as HB 580 will be voted on in committee next Monday. (Deadline for citizen input, however, is Friday at noon.)
Read the bill HERE.
The 11-page bill goes much further; its language would, technically speaking, make even touching your phone illegal.
We consider this bill somewhat foolish and a true over-reach on the part of a “nanny state.”
We’ve emailed the committee asking them to vote against HB 580 annd encourage you to do the same…. (and emails need to be received by noon tomorrow - Friday the 12th).
The House Appropriations Committee email is: h-app@legis.la.gov
Subject Line: “Vote NO on HB 580”
Keep the message a sweet and simple single sentence.
Many thanks to you all.

This seems to be an attempt to undercut the use of cell phones as a means for citizens to photograph, film or communicate the abuse of power by policing and governing officials. A good example of that kind of use was your post about the bridge jumper. You were in your car taking the photos. You would be guilty of breaking this law.
